CompTIA Network+ N10-009: Full Study Blueprint

Network+ N10-009 replaced N10-008 in June 2024, and honestly the changes are small - more emphasis on SDN, cloud networking, and IPv6, less on legacy WAN tech. It's still the cleanest vendor-neutral networking exam and pairs beautifully with CCNA for anyone starting a network engineer career in Bangladesh or the Gulf.

§N10-009 in one paragraph

90 minutes, up to 90 questions with 3–5 PBQs. USD 358 fee. Pass mark: 720/900. Five domains, no prerequisites, and unlike Security+ the questions are more definitional and less scenario-heavy.

§Subnetting: the make-or-break skill

Expect 5–8 questions requiring you to subnet on the fly. The N10-009 doesn't give you a calculator - you need the /24, /25, /26 through /30 boundaries memorized. My drill: 20 subnetting questions a day for 10 days. By day 7 you'll do them in your head.

Every Network+ exam version asks 2–4 questions on CompTIA's troubleshooting steps. Memorize the order verbatim:

Should I take Network+ or CCNA first?

Network+ if your employer is vendor-neutral (banks, telcos, universities). CCNA if you're targeting Cisco-heavy environments. In Bangladesh, most enterprise gigs prefer CCNA.

Is Network+ enough for a job?

For NOC L1 roles: yes. For network engineer roles: pair it with CCNA or hands-on lab experience.

Is N10-009 harder than N10-008?

Slightly. More cloud and SDN questions. If you have any hands-on networking, no meaningful difference.

How long is Network+ valid?

3 years. Renew via CEUs, higher CompTIA certs, or CCNA/CCNP recertification.
