Is CCNA Still Worth It in 2026?

Cisco's CCNA has been the default networking certification for two decades. With SD-WAN, cloud networking, and SASE reshaping the network engineer role, plenty of people now ask whether CCNA still earns its keep in 2026.

§What changed

Cisco refreshed CCNA to a single exam (200-301) back in 2020 and has kept the blueprint intentionally broad: routing/switching fundamentals, IP services, security basics, automation/programmability, and wireless. The 2024 blueprint refresh added more emphasis on network programmability and verification commands.

§Where CCNA still pays off

• MSPs and managed network providers - still the default hiring filter
• Federal and defense contractors - Cisco gear is still everywhere
• Enterprise network operations teams in finance, healthcare, and manufacturing
• ISPs and telcos - even those with strong Juniper/Arista footprints

§Where CCNA is not enough

Cloud-native SaaS companies that run on AWS/GCP/Azure: CCNA alone won't get you in the door. You'll need AWS Advanced Networking Specialty or equivalent cloud networking knowledge layered on top.

§Verdict

Worth it in 2026 if you're starting a networking career, working in any large enterprise, or sitting on the help-desk-to-NetOps career path. Skip if your trajectory is pure cloud SRE or you already hold CCNP.
